Youth of today!
Knife crime offences up! 59 every single day! Funding cut! Scared?
Fulwood Methodist Church has run a very successful Youth
Group on a Friday night for many years, giving youngsters a safe place to be
with the opportunity to play games, do art and crafts, eat,
watch films, do gymnastics, dance and most importantly socialise. We hear that
there are no youth clubs around for our youngsters to go to but we at this
church run a very successful club.
Our numbers for the Escape Group (7-11 years) are about 40 and the Youth Group (11+) are about 35, these groups aren’t from the same school but from different, an equal mix of boys and girls, different races all playing and talking together. We have in the past year had 4 15/16-year olds ask to come and volunteer as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award, and so grateful was one set of parents that they gave the group a donation towards funds.
But what I think makes this club something the church should be proud of is the amazing voluntary staff that help run it week after week without moaning! And yes, we do have problems that have to be dealt with, it’s not perfect! But the youngsters love it and keep coming back and it keeps them safe and off the streets. We owe a great deal to our volunteers so please thank them, pray for them and if you want to become part of a great team, talk to me.
