Supreme Champion!
Great Eccleston Show

I’ve been a member of Fylde Heddles and Treadles Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers (you may have seen some of us spinning at the Craft Fairs at Church) for more years than I care to remember. I have been entering skeins of wool, knitted clothes and toys in the handicrafts section at Great Eccleston Agricultural Show for almost as many years with moderate success. However, this year is the first time I have been lucky enough to win the accolade of Supreme Champion in Handicrafts.
The entry which won the prize was a Shetland Lace shawl made from hand-spun silk and cashmere; fine enough to fit through a wedding ring. I was pleased and very surprised to win as the shawl wasn’t only judged against other items submitted by Guild members but by all the other handicrafts such as quilting, dressmaking etc., and there was a very large number of entries. This is the first time I have left the show carrying a trophy – well actually a tray – and a rosette. I have to hand the tray back next year, but I keep the rosette! Janet Porter
